What If The World Ends Tomorrow?

When we absorb the concept of the duration of our lifespan, it may be perceived as a short dot in the time frame of the universe. It can also be seen as a never ending sequence of events that we go about in our everyday lives. No matter the uniquety behind each individual character, the one similarity between all the citizens of a unified society is that we all undergo the same processes. We all go to college, though our majors might differ, and we all graduate to jobs with incomes that lead us to retirement at the ripe age of 70. This vicious cycle never seems to stop turning its wheels until one day, we are on our deathbed wondering where we went wrong when reflecting back on the accomplishments of our lifetime.

We treat everyday as a dependent factor for our future. We collect money in our piggybank in order to pool it for college savings in the near future, but we don’t take into consideration the fact that the future in question may never arrive. Yes, it is important to plan ahead, but it is also vital to live in the current moment. It is uncertain whether we will even survive till the day we plan for something to happen, so is it not better to focus our attention on what is right in front of us? If this concept is hard to grasp, just think and ask yourself, what if the world ends tomorrow?

Don’t just skim the question and expect an answer, but really think about this question. Would the knowledge of our untimely doom affect the way that we act towards others? If we were collectively informed as a society that the world as we know it would end tomorrow, the reactions of people would vary greatly. Some would take this as an opportunity to take advantage of the stores that would no longer be of usage. Others would reflect back on the choices they have made, and the actions that they have undergone in order to build up to their current self. Most would feel a sense of panic as they realize that they have not accomplished much in this lifetime, and would feel guilty for essentially wasting their time on Earth.

This situation seems as though it was pulled from a dystopian setting where order and chaos do not exist, but it is very much applicable in modern society. As stated before, the chances of our survival decrease everyday as our life progresses. The chances of us being alive tomorrow are not certain, so living life in the moment is crucial in order to feel a sense of accomplishment. Although we are never formally given the time of our death to properly coordinate all of the activities that we hope to accomplish in life, it is necessary to take a step back and approach different situations in our current best interest.
